I’m Kay Khater, founder of Dignified Companion.
I created Dignified Companion to provide something simple—but often missing: a calm, reliable presence during important moments.
The idea came from personal experience—understanding the challenge of supporting aging parents while balancing work, family, and the responsibilities of everyday life. Like many families, I know there are times when you simply can’t be there, even when you wish you could.
On a personal note, I’m a husband and a proud father of twin girls, and family is at the center of my life. I understand how much we want to be there for the people we love—and how difficult it can be when work, distance, and everyday responsibilities get in the way. That understanding is a big part of why I created Dignified Companion.
When you choose Dignified Companion, you’re not being assigned a driver or a rotating caregiver. I’m the person you speak with, the person who arrives, and the person who stays by your loved one’s side.
As a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA®), I bring a deeper understanding of the evolving needs that come with aging. I approach every visit with patience, respect, consistency, and quiet professionalism—while always respecting the dignity and independence of the person I’m there to support.

I begin with a Complimentary "Meet Kay" Consultation. I believe trust begins with getting to know one another. This initial, face-to-face meeting allows me to get to know your loved one, understand their unique routines and preferences, and ensure that our family values align perfectly before any official sessions are scheduled.

Yes. once we begin working together, I offer a complimentary Home Safety & Hazard Assessment. I’ll walk through your loved one’s living spaces to look for potential hazards—such as trip risks, lighting concerns, or accessibility barriers—and provide practical recommendations to help them remain safe and independent at home.

Absolutely. If your family is considering a transition to an assisted living community or senior care facility in the San Diego area, this guidance is entirely free for our active clients. I can share independent guidance on local facilities, help you understand what to look for, and assist in evaluating options so your family can make an informed decision.

No. While safe, comfortable private transportation is included, Dignified Companion provides something more personal: a trusted family presence when you can’t be there. I don’t simply drop your loved one off—I can accompany them inside, remain by their side when needed, and make sure they return home safely and comfortably.

No. Dignified Companion provides non-clinical, personal support and stewardship. I do not provide medical treatment, personal care such as bathing or feeding, or medication administration. Instead, I provide companionship, logistical support, and a steady professional presence during appointments, outings, at home, and other important moments.

Kay Khater, is a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA®) and a bonded California Notary Public. This means my service operates under the highest ethical standards of senior care literacy, privacy, and administrative professionalism.

Yes. Because I am a licensed California Notary, I can conveniently handle important signature verifications or paperwork transitions on-site during our scheduled sessions, saving your family an extra trip.

I routinely provide premium accompaniment for museum visits, country club events, family gatherings, religious services, theater outings, or simply a relaxed lunch in La Jolla. I ensure our clients arrive safely, navigate the venue comfortably, and enjoy their day with complete dignity.

Yes, I welcome it. My high-safety, premium vehicle is exceptionally spacious and designed to comfortably accommodate additional passengers. Whether your loved one wants to pick up a close friend for a shared lunch date, carpool to an event, or have a family member ride along to a special occasion, I am happy to coordinate multi-stop pickups to make the social outing complete.

All active Dignified Companion clients receive complimentary Home Safety Assessments and placement guidance at no additional cost.
Pricing
Local Companion Transfer — $49 each way
For shorter local trips when continuous accompaniment isn't needed.

Private Visit & Stewardship — $150
Up to 2 hours
For appointments, errands, outings, and other occasions when you want someone to remain by your loved one's side.

Additional Time: $60 per hour
Every service is personally provided by me. No rotating drivers or caregivers—your family knows exactly who will be there.
Companionship at Home — $45 per hour
Two-hour minimum — $90
Personal companionship and shared activities in the comfort of home.
